Qualifications under this program are for people working or seeking to work with adults and children and young people in health and social care settings.
The health and social care field is vast and includes work within hospitals, health centres and care homes with variety of clients such as the elderly, children, those with disabilities or special needs. Courses in this discipline lead to NVQ, OCR National or Edexcel qualifications.
NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualification. It is an internationally recognized Professional qualification, based on UK national standards of performance achieved through assessment.
These qualifications are designed for people who work with individuals to support and assist them with their physical or emotional care, daily living needs or maintaining their independence.
The level 2 qualification is aimed at home care assistants, community support assistants, healthcare assistants and residential or day service assistants.
The level 3 qualification is aimed at individuals who often work without direct supervision or on their own, perhaps in a user's own home.
The level 4 qualification is aimed at people in supervisory or management roles.
Levels 3 and 4 include a pathway for adults and one for children and young people. The adults pathway is appropriate for senior care workers, healthcare workers, home care organizers and community support workers. The children and young people pathway is appropriate for residential child care workers and fosters carers as well as individuals in health, youth justice and educational settings.

It is a qualification by the Oxford Cambridge and Royal Society of Arts (OCR), which is accredited onto the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). It is a nationally recognized professional qualification based on national standards of performance. Qualification units are centre-assessed and externally moderated by OCR.
These programmes are suitable for those studying to prepare for employment in health, social care and early years sector especially in job roles where they will be required to use their understanding, gain a specialist endorsement, or require a breath of knowledge and skills of health and care principles and values across the sector. Possible career options include; Nursing and Midwifery, Social Work, Community and Social Care, Guidance and Counselling, Social and Clinical Psychology, Paramedics, Health Education Promotion, Nursery Nurses and Officers and Occupational Therapy, etc.
They are also suitable qualifications for those wishing to gain a level three qualification to access further study in Higher Education.
The Higher Nationals in Health and Social Care originate from a vocational setting and have been designed to enable progression from a vocational route as well as from academic study.
